Let us draw together in thanks and praise for the goodness that is in the world. Let us also sorrow for those who suffer and all the work which remains undone. Let us be reverent and loving in the light of truth, faith, courage and abundance. May our hearts create a space where all these realities dwell together–and where blessed affection abides and casts its warmth on all.

The days–the weeks–the years–fly by and here we are again. ‘Refulgent summer’ fades and leaves descend from the trees, soon to lie in heaps upon the ground. Soon, the fields will lie in broken stubble. Yet even as sleep comes upon field and forest, even as we put on our long coats, within each breast lies the re-awakening of spring. In gathering, we honor the ongoing miracle of our existence and the ever spiraling dance of life.

We come together to renew ourselves in one another’s good company. Together we live the individual goodness and beauty that each makes sacred. Mindful of life’s deep challenges, we support one another, but each has work to do. May we receive the gift of one another and complete our labors together, all in the fullness of time.

The sun smiles down on cloud and field and road and church. The winds wander across the land, bestowing moisture upon the receiving earth. We gather in religious community not to escape ancient processes, but to celebrate them and become one with them.

We are part of the stars. We are part of the earth. The heavens, the sun, the soil, the rain work within the very cells of our bodies. We are created to be gifts from the universe to one another: to share and rejoice and then go our ways. Let us do these things mindfully and with love.
