Of any riches life may bestow, one’s own mind is the brightest gift of all. No barrier blocks it. Neither rain nor snow may sway it from its journey. Only we, ourselves, can destroy this wonderful gift, by choosing to let it lie fallow. Let us use our mind-gift with joy, for the harvesting of the gift is also the seeding and fertilizing of the gift.

We live always at a crossroads between two worlds: the world that is and the world that might come to be. Nothing is ordained for us, neither delight nor defeat, peace nor war. Life flows and we must choose with our hearts and with our hands. We can, if we will, begin to change the world we have into the world we want.

Simply by breathing we give thanks for the miracle that is our life. By continuing forward with those we love, we live the meaning of that miracle: the smile of a baby, the laugh of a child, the sweet air of justice, the melody of wisdom. In this, let our lives be wide and full of grace.

The sun which lights our world, is but a single star from among galaxies plentiful as grains of sand. Vastness surrounds us, immeasurable beyond our small knowing. But what a grand gift lies, precisely, in not knowing. May we learn to love the wonder that lies beyond our ken, for therein lies wisdom.

In our time among one another, may we reflect on our same-ness as well as our different-ness. May we look with clear eyes upon ourselves and upon one another. May we speak with truth and love in such a way that “peace” becomes an active exercise rather than a passive dream.
